Gilles Fecteau commented on The Manhattan Institute's Joke of a Wall Street Journal Op-Ed... 2018-03-18 09:44:03 -0700So all you need to do is install air conditioning in all barns and farmer fields that grow our food.
Gilles Fecteau commented on Global Warming Is Now Irreversible... 2018-03-16 11:38:46 -0700Whenever a meteorologist denies global warming, we are quick to point out that the person is not a climate scientist. By the same reasoning, Stephen Hawking was not a climate scientist. I find using his quote the day after his death irresponsible.
Stating that the earth will become as hot as Venus is not helping. From the past, we know that “in our geologic past once our the average global temperature increased by 5° Celsius, the oceans warmed enough to release methane from the methane clathrate crystals found on most of the coastal ocean shelves around the world. When this methane was suddenly released, temperatures skyrocketed, resulting in a true global extinction event.”
i believe we urgently need to stop emitting GHG. But we will also need geoengineering to minimize the global extinction event that’s already underway.
Gilles Fecteau commented on Correcting the underestimation in the current IPCC future average global temperature projections... 2018-03-12 06:20:21 -0700It would be useful to explain why an adjustment to the IPCC estimates is necessary. My experience, watching the IPCC reports is that the climate situation at the beginning of every one (except the first) is worst than the worst case scenario predicted by the previous report. Therefore, some adjustment is necessary.

Gilles Fecteau commented on CLIMATE CHANGE WILL DISPLACE MILLIONS IN COMING DECADES. NATIONS SHOULD PREPARE NOW TO HELP THEM... 2017-12-22 04:45:04 -0800I fear the rich nations will continue denying they cause global warming and ignore the plead of the affected people.
Gilles Fecteau commented on WORLD HAS THREE YEARS LEFT TO STOP DANGEROUS CLIMATE CHANGE, WARN EXPERTS... 2017-06-29 12:23:30 -0700I fully agree with this article. Unfortunately, the people that will suffer the most from extreme heat are from poor countries where AC is not an option.
Gilles Fecteau commented on ARCTIC SEA ICE MELT, DRIVEN BY GLOBAL WARMING, ACCELERATED BY NATURE... 2017-03-16 08:26:47 -0700The main justification for the extra ‘natural’ ice melt appears to be warm air flow to the north. But is that not due to Jetstream changes caused by a lower temperature delta between the poles and the tropic? How much of that is due to increase in ghg?
Positive feedback due to our emissions should not be counted as some natural variation.
Gilles Fecteau commented on THE WINTER OF BLAZING DISCONTENT CONTINUES IN THE ARCTIC... 2017-02-08 05:50:47 -0800The race is on. Who will last longer? Summer’s ice at the north Pole or Trump as president?

We run one of the most cost-effective operations among all nonprofit environmental groups. But, we can’t do our job of educating more people about what they can do about the global warming emergency without tax-deductible donations from concerned individuals, businesses and activists like you!
Your tax-deductible donation will help us to:
change more minds,
involve more people,
- slow and lessen the catastrophic global warming consequences the are coming, and
help build a more ecologically sustainable world for everyone, which will ultimately ensure we and our children will survive and thrive as a species.

Gilles Fecteau commented on CANARIES IN A COAL MINE: BLACK COMMUNITIES COULD SUFFER UNDER TRUMP’S ENERGY AND CLIMATE POLICIES... 2016-12-19 06:17:03 -0800I am afraid that under Trump, the US will lose its technological leadership toward the next industrial revolution, that of clean energy and sustainable development.
Gilles Fecteau commented on TRUMP SAYS ‘NOBODY REALLY KNOWS’ IF CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL... 2016-12-13 03:49:39 -0800The Swedish scientist, Svante Arrhenius, calculated that cutting CO2 in half would suffice to produce an ice age. He further calculated that a doubling of atmospheric CO2 would give a total warming of 5-6 degrees Celsius. The year was 1896.

Gilles Fecteau posted about Declare a Global Warming State of Emergency on Facebook 2017-01-23 04:11:34 -0800Please sign the petition: Declare a Global State of Emergency!
We, the citizens of our nation and of our Earth, are endowed with certain rights, powers, and obligations, which demand we act both individually and collectively to protect and preserve the ongoing evolution of life on Earth, including our future generations.
Based upon a preponderance of scientific evidence we recognize our global climate is rapidly warming and becoming increasingly unstable due to human-caused carbon pollution from the burning of fossil fuels. If we do not change course before global warming tipping points are crossed, this destabilization of our climate will continue to cause ever-increasing suffering and irreversible devastation for both current and future generations. If left unresolved, it could cause the extinction, or near extinction, of the human species.
We further recognize that because of numerous technical and human factors, for all intents and purposes global warming (aka climate change,) has become irreversible for at least the next 50 years and the consequent additional consequences occurring over this additional 50 year time period is the greatest currently active threat to the security of all nations, comparable in scope of impact to global nuclear war. Escalating average global temperature rises will lead to a massive destabilization of normal life affecting first millions, then billions of people forced to deal with ongoing climate catastrophes, severe food and other resource depletion, and mass climate migrations. (See this page which proves the statements of this paragraph are factual.)
Nearly all of the other major problems our world faces today will also worsen due to the threat multiplier and great disruptor effects of escalating global warming.
All of the ecological, economic and political problems (listed just below) will cross over into each other and greatly magnify those problems as average global temperatures continues to rise.
- Food and resource depletion
- Severe droughts, floods, and wildfires
- Rising sea levels
- Water pollution and water table loss
- Desertification and deforestation
- Ocean fish stock depletion
- Growing economic inequity, poverty, and instability
- Political instability and injustice
- War and regional conflicts
- Increasing potential of pandemics and other health crises
Despite 30 + years of education, study, and discussion about the possible irreversible effects of human-caused carbon and methane pollution of our atmosphere, global warming temperatures have escalated to levels that may have already passed or be close to passing global warming tipping points with impacts that are now irreversible for centuries to thousands of years.
We must immediately stop the continued rise of average global temperature by decreasing the human-caused production of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels.
Failure to resolve global warming for ourselves and future generations is simply not a survivable option.
As global citizens of every nation on Earth, we ask you, our national leaders, to first initiate the necessary steps to formally declare a national and international global warming State of Emergency. And then at this emergency meeting, call for the immediate allocation of all of the resources, personnel, and actions necessary (like those described in the Job One for Humanity Plan,) to quickly resolve this State of Emergency to sustainably protect, preserve, and advance the continued evolution of humanity and life on Earth.
By signing this petition now (in the box below,) I am notifying my national politicians of my demand for their action on this matter and, I am also pledging to act together with others as one human family to acknowledge and resolve the escalating global warming emergency.
